Finding The Magic

Sometimes the most amazing things are right under our noses, and we just don’t notice them.

I spend a great deal of time taking pictures of everything in my world. Whether it’s my iPhone or my Canon, my camera is always busy capturing moments. This isn’t something new for me; I’ve always had a love for photographs. If you are a regular follower of my material, you know that I use my camera as part of my mindfulness strategy. Throughout my day, when I see unique things — things that bring me joy — I stop, snap a picture, express gratitude, and move on. But this isn’t about that. This is about perspective.

My cameras have taught me many things in my life, but perspective may be the biggest lesson of all. This is a photograph of a rose that I planted. It doesn’t bloom often, but when it does, it is a spectacular show. I was more than delighted to see this bloom and the lighting coming across it. I started to shoot different photos from various angles, and while most of them were beautiful, they didn’t show anything unusual. In fact, I didn’t notice anything unusual until I opened iPhoto and started looking at them on my laptop screen. Then I saw the magic—a beautiful little dancing figure in the right-hand corner, potentially a garden fairy! To say that I was excited would be an understatement. I couldn’t believe that I actually saw that.

Now, my son, Mr. Logical, said it’s just the stamens and the shadows that come across it. Maybe from a logical standpoint, he is correct. However, I choose to see magic in the world wherever I go. I seek it out daily, if not moment to moment. When I showed the figure to my husband, his response was priceless. He looked at me and said, “Well, now you have evidence of garden fairies.” I hadn’t thought of it that way until he said it, and my heart jumped because that was how I would now view this photo. My perspective completely changed. What’s more fascinating about perspective is that from all the different angles I shot the photo, it only showed up in one photograph. None of the others showed it.

What an outstanding lesson and reminder that the universe has given to me, and now to all of you: change your perspective, and the world changes. Sometimes you just need to make small shifts, and sometimes big ones, but perspective is the name of the game.

Go and seek & find your MAGIC!

Have a blessed day my friends…

Kim
